breathe

March 19, 2010

This past week I was talking with my daughter and she asked me “Mommy, what did I say to you when I was inside you? Did I tell you jokes?” We had fun talking about how she did communicate with me when she was in my womb, and then I shared with her that the first actual sound I heard her make with her voice was a cry right after she was born.

She took her first breath and with that exhale her voice was finally heard.

With each breath a voice is empowered.

Yes…we can make choices that may cause us or others to loose the ability to breathe…silencing ourselves or others. However, we can also take action to create time to breathe and space for our voices to engage in dialogue. Time and space for us to share life with each other…breathing and interacting with voices other than our own.

However, we must remember to

(that’s me saying breathe) and reflect on our own voice so that  we can also hear all of the other voices that also provide an important part within this composition of life. So that restoration can continue in this world.
