…the sun and moon

June 18, 2010

This flower of a tulip tree was one of my highlights this week. As I tried to capture this beauty the sun caught my eyes.  And as my daughter reached for my hand I smiled from the inside out…I have so many different sources of light surrounding me right now.

This week has been filled with days that have just taken my breath away. It would pour one day and then next the sun would break through… then it rained…then the sun returned. This has been the weather pattern this past week.

My life has been filled with rainy days but I have been blessed with different sources of light in my life…people, places, music, nature, art…creation.  I haven’t always taken the time to rest long enough to reflect on these source. But this tulip tree was the sun, my daughter’s reaching hand was the sun, the light breeze was the sun, a text was the sun…but our FATHER is THE sun… the source of all of these other lights. Sara Groves’ words brings this truth to life through her following song:

You are the sun shining down on everyone
Light of the world giving light to everything I see
Beauty so brilliant I can hardly take it in
And everywhere you are is warmth and light

And I am the moon with no light of my own
Still you have made me to shine
And as I glow in this cold dark night
I know I canít be a light unless I turn my face to you

You are the sun shining down on everyone
Light of the world giving light to everything I see
Beauty so brilliant I can hardly take it in
And everywhere you are is warmth and light

And I am the moon with no light of my own
Still you have made me to shine
And as I glow in this cold dark night
I know I canít be a light unless I turn my face to you

Shine on me with your light
Without you I’m a cold dark stone
Shine on me I have no light of my own
You are the sun, you are the sun, you are the sun
And I am the moon

We MUST take time to see and inhale HIS light so that we can reflect HIM in ALL that we think, say, and do. We MUST learn how to and choose to engage in the sun and moon dialogue.
