good-bye friend

This afternoon I was picking up my children from art camp and they and one other child were huddled around this bird that had hit a window and fell to the porch only moments earlier.

Together the children moved quietly around the yard gathering flowers to surround the bird as they said good-bye to this beautiful friend of theirs. Watching this ceremonious farewell was sad but awe inspiring to see these children take time to honor a bird so beautifully.

Today I am thankful for being able to observe this good-bye to a friend.
